One of my favorite days of the school year is Simple Machine Day.
After writing a grant several years ago, I partnered with Lancaster Bible College (LBC) to create a full-day, hands-on science extravaganza! Pre-service teachers from LBC create lessons to teach simple machines through all hands-on experiences.
STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) integration is crucial for our students. There is a high interest level and many future careers will be revolved around those skills. Each student goes to 7 different workshops that focus on the individual simple machines. The students build pulley systems, find multiple uses for levers, design complex machines, and so much more!
It is a day that puts a smile on everyone’s face!
